Our History

The church was founded in 1844, after a split in the Episcopal Church over slavery. The church sided against slavery. This property was purchased on May 17, 1886, and the church was built in 1887 using handmade bricks. When the building was completed, it was known as First Avenue Methodist Episcopal Church. In 1888, the bell-tower was donated by George Spivey, with a bell brought from a foundry in Boston

inscribed 1889 which is still in use today.

At the turn of the 21 st century the church membership dwindled, and they could no longer sustain operations. The Trinity Community Center, an interdenominational organization that supports local ministries then used the church.15In 2017, John and Lindsey Bamber bought the church and parsonage and have been using the church for office space and an event space. The parsonage is now being used as a short-term rental.

The Cannons

We feel it is SO important to know and understand
who we are and why we do what we do!

So, who are we? We are Jake + Brittany Cannon, the owners of Trinity Chapel. In the spring of 2023, my husband and I purchased the Chapel. After graduating from Rhea High, I moved off to pursue a career as a Nurse Practitioner. After getting married to a Meigs County local, I moved back to the area. When the opportunity arose, my husband and I decided to purchase the Chapel. As a Rhea local, and family all around, our hearts were excited to join the community. This space has been a place to gather for over 100 years and our hope is that it will continue for be so for years to come!

Hello, I'm

Brittany Cannon

In addition to being a wife, I run most of the day to day operations of the Trinity Chapel on top being a Nurse Practitioner. I am passionate about building relationships with our couples and walking with them along this journey. I absolutely love helping couples not only plan their weddings, but building a foundation for marriages that will last a lifetime!

As you dream about your life together, you also get the plan the big first step in your adventure β€” your wedding! It’s a beautiful day that you’ll no doubt remember forever, and we know that you want it to be perfect. Marriage requires lots of decisions, logistics, and communication. That makes wedding planning great practice!

We hope to make this season of planning full of

JOY and EXCITEMENT!!
